Musical St. Cruz

Music is also one of the best know cultural fortes of the village. In mando competitions (mando is a traditional love song sung during weddings in old days but today is respected as an important cultural heritage) the village normally contributes with many groups in different categories. The late Maestro Jose Santana Cota was a genius in music and many of his students have prospered not only in India, but also overseas.

This is all I am posting on St. Cruz. I believe these blog posts have provided you relevant information on St. Cruz. Thanking You Regards VIshal P.G.

Thank You.

Crown Club of Santa Cruz

St. Cruz is famous for sports and culture too. There is a sports club born in St. Cruz which is known all over Goa.

Crown Club of Santa Cruz, Goa

Crown Club of Santa Cruz has excelled over the years both in football and volleyball as well as in athletics and body building competitions. Many players who have started as amateurs, have nowadays achieved a lot in their careers, thanks to the club's glory as well as the ever supporting public who will make sure they attend any match in large numbers.

In my next post i shall upload more info on St. Cruz. Till then... Thank You.
The chapel of Our Lady of Livra Febre

The chapel of Our Lady of Livra Febre is the main place of religious importance. The visiting Chaplain of this beautiful chapel is Fr Almir. This chapel was built about 50 years ago. It looks after the spiritual needs of the 400-odd Catholics in the ward. Many programmes like Tiatr, carol singing, etc take place in the chappel. The feast of this chapel is celebrated in the month of May.

Heritage Homes of St. Cruz

St. Cruz has a large number of some important architectural landmarks reminescent of the Portuguese style such as the Dempo House, the Dias House, the Pinto House, the Kenkre house and the magnificient Nachinolkar house.

The Kenkre House

The Dempo House

The Dias House

A characteristic of this style is the existence of large frontal balconies with 'moulded' seats either made up of stone or brickwork, where people could seat comfortably at the end of the day and chat away the events of the day with all family members. However, nowadays, majority of the buildings constructed are just high rise and 'box' type flats but these still have their modern balconies made up of concrete.

In my next post, I shall share more details on St. Cruz. Till then... Thank You.
